San Antonio is the proud home of multiple major and minor league sports teams in the country. San Antonio’s top-level professional team plays for the National Basketball Association. The San Antonio Spurs have been playing for the city since 1973 and have five championships to their name. The team plays out of the AT&T Center each season.
The San Antonio Rampage is the city’s American Hockey League team. The Rampage is affiliated with the National Hockey League’s Florida Panthers and has been playing in the city since 1971. The Rampage also plays out of the AT&T Center during their season.
San Antonio has their own Women’s National Basketball Association team, the San Antonio Stars. The Stars are a professional basketball team that plays for the Western Conference in the WNBA. The team was originally founded in 1997 in Salt Lake city, but were moved to San Antonio in 2003. The Stars have never won a championship, but have had quite a few well-known basketball stars on the team. Becky Hammon, Sophia Young, Ann Wauters, and Margo Dydek are just a few of the superstars from the team.
Affiliated with the Major League Baseball team the San Diego Padres, the San Antonio Missions are the city’s Double-A Minor League baseball team. The Missions play out of Nelson Wolff Stadium each season.
San Antonio also has two rugby teams and a great high school football following.
